Direct Relief Calls Santa Barbara County to Action to Fulfill Need for Baby Care Items
SANTA BARBARA, CA (August 3, 2007) Direct Relief International is calling on its neighbors in Santa Barbara County to help newborns in impoverished countries live healthier, better lives by donating time or needed baby-care products for Direct Relief's Infant Care Project.
The project is dedicated to improving infant healthcare through the provision of "Infant Care Kits," which include baby blankets, hats, and personal care items. Assembled at Direct Relief's warehouse by staff and volunteers, these kits are distributed to Direct Relief's network of healthcare providers in 56 countries. Direct Relief's stock of kit supplies is currently very low and needs replenishing.
"The products in the kits may not seem like much to us in Santa Barbara, but for the end recipients they can make the difference between a healthy child and a sick child," said Direct Relief's Candice Becker, head of the Infant Care Project.
Direct Relief is also looking for volunteers with knitting or crochet experience to make new blankets and hats for the Infant Care Kits on a regular basis.
