Response to Peru Earthquake

SANTA BARBARA, CA (August 15, 2007) A strong earthquake estimated in initial reports to be as high as 7.9 on the Richter scale hit the coastal Peru on August 15, 2007.  The quake triggered tsunami warnings, later cancelled, for coastal areas from Chile to Central America. 

Direct Relief has offered assistance as may be needed to the Peruvian American Medical Society (PAMS) and is contacting local Peruvian authorities and healthcare partners to offer assistance.

Direct Relief maintains ongoing humanitarian health programs throughout Peru and has assisted in previous earthquake response activities in partnership with PAMS, individual healthcare facilities, and the Government of Peru.
