FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

San Diego Fire Department Distributing Direct Relief-Supplied Breathing Masks
Donated Masks Available at Several Locations

SAN DIEGO, CA (October 25, 2007) Through a donation from Direct Relief International the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department is able to offer 80,000 particulate masks, free of charge, to residents of the City.

The masks are N95 Grade which means they filter out 95 percent of the particles and are effective against smaller particles (0.1 micron to 10 microns).  Breathing masks are recommended especially for seniors, pregnant women, anyone with a history of heart or lung problems and anyone who needs to be outside for a prolonged period of time.  It is advised that you do not work outside for periods of more than an hour or so.

The Fire-Rescue Department has provided a large supply of the masks to the Assistance Center in Rancho Bernardo (18448 West Bernardo Drive).  In addition, all the San Diego fire engines working in the Rancho Bernardo area will have masks available to the public.  The remaining masks will be distributed to fire stations throughout the City of San Diego, as soon as it is possible to get them delivered.  Residents can stop by their neighborhood station to get a breathing mask, while supplies last.
