The
simple goal of enabling people to live healthy, productive lives—regardless of
the circumstances into which they are born or find themselves—has for decades
been at the heart of Direct Relief ’s humanitarian medical work in more than 70
countries and all 50 U.S. states. Direct Relief focuses on supporting local
healthcare throughout the world without regard to race, ethnicity, politics,
religion, gender, or the ability to pay, and has provided $1.5 billion in
medical aid since 2000.
Direct Relief was among the first organizations to benefit from Google’s suite
of applications and services available to nonprofit groups.
The resultant speed, transparency, and efficiencies
have been a staple of Direct Relief’s humanitarian health programs and
emergency response.
In May of 2010, Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt visited Direct Relief headquarters and received the 2011 Visionary Award on behalf of Google.
“…to see what Direct Relief International has done with the
technology that we’ve spent so many decades working on is just fantastic. Who would have thought that the things that we’ve worked on in
the lab have ultimately saved lives at that kind of scale.”
— Eric Schmidt, Google Executive Chairman
