FedEx has donated shipping to Direct Relief on a
monthly basis for over 16 years and has helped Direct Relief deliver urgent assistance to disaster-stricken communities by contributing air freight. Since August 2004, when FedEx expanded its support to provide ongoing international contributions, FedEx has contributed over $500,000 in Express service.
FedEx was one of the first of Direct Relief's corporate partners to make a commitment to join the international relief effort in South Asia by helping Direct Relief deliver $2.7 million (wholesale) of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies to the tsunami-affected region. FedEx's contributions of free air transport have helped millions of people receive critically needed medical assistance.
FedEx also contributed intensive logistical support and transportation services valued at over $142,981 in support of Direct Relief's Hurricanes Katrina and Rita response effort. FedEx enabled Direct Relief to scale its response and provide emergency supplies on an overnight basis to clinics managing through the crisis. This partnership has also provided significant savings, helping Direct Relief maintain operational efficiency, gain the trust of donors, and attract national recognition.
Each with various destinations and immediate purposes, all of these packages helped to advance our mission to deliver healthcare resources to people in need. The medical tools Direct Relief provided represent surgeries performed, courses of treatment that cured disease, examinations and safe deliveries performed, and the delivery of quality medical care to people who would otherwise have no access.
In 2006, FedEx provided a generous grant of $75,000 to help Direct Relief provide a reliable and direct line of communication with and between our California Clinic partners in preparation for the likely event of a natural disaster in our state. The scope and potential impact of FedEx' support is statewide and will potentially reach 630 California Primary Care Association (CPCA) clinic sites, safeguarding the health of hundreds of thousands of Californians.
FedEx contributions enabled Direct Relief to deliver over $7.4 million (wholesale) of medical material resources to partners in 26 countries in FY 2007 alone.
