JOB TITLE: Grants Coordinator
HOURS PER WEEK: 40
LOCATION: Goleta, CA
STATUS: Full-time, Exempt

The Grants Coordinator will be responsible for developing quality grant applications and other persuasive programmatic documents, researching funding prospects, and cultivating and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders. Candidate must be a motivated self-starter, take initiative to move projects ahead and accomplish tasks, and be extremely detail-oriented. This position will be responsible for writing clear, articulate, and comprehensive proposals and for submitting timely and accurate reports for all grant-funded projects. Grants will have clear and measurable goals, objectives, and outcomes, and will abide by all specific funder requirements. The Grants Coordinator will also be responsible for identifying, cultivating, and stewarding a portfolio of foundations. This position will have knowledge of data tracking software and use it appropriately to track grantor information and actions. Knowledge of the U.S. healthcare safety net and international health issues favorable. This position will work collaboratively across departments to best represent the organization.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

The following duties and responsibilities are those considered to be essential but do not represent all job functions that may be required to be performed by this position. Other comparable duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

  1. Write grant proposals, reports, and other persuasive programmatic documents
    • Have exceptional written communication skills, with emphasis on persuasive writing
    • Write, adapt, and edit proposals, letters, and concept papers for existing and new programs
    • Prepare grant applications for submittal and prepare reports as required by granting agencies, paying careful attention to detail to meet all requirements
    • Be able to conduct the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals and reports, including working collaboratively with program and finance staff to gather appropriate information
    • Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to identify and evaluate prospects for grants, including utilization of The Foundation Center Directory Online and Foundation Search databases
    • Understand technology systems to able to seek and obtain data, and also track actions
    • Comply with all communications and reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors
    • Provide stewardship to current corporate and foundation donors, including regular written updates
    • Edit draft applications/reports for accuracy, completeness and clarity and submittal of all applications in accordance with grant requirements
    • Assist in the editing and proofreading of internal documents, web posts, and publications
    • Maintain records in Raiser’s Edge and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting
  2. Manage corporate/foundation relationships
    • Be able to clearly understand and articulate all Direct Relief programs and activities
    • Identify, cultivate, and steward corporate and business CSR (corporate social responsibility) officers to determine funding match with appropriate Direct Relief programs
    • Manage relationships and solicitation process for select corporate and foundation prospects
    • Provide thoughtful, consistent and appropriate stewardship
    • Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to identify and evaluate prospects for foundation/corporate funding, including utilization of The Foundation Center Directory Online and Foundation Search databases

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals
  • Careful attention to detail
  • Strong editing skills
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with writing grant applications, business proposals, and/or responses to RFPs
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative environment, handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated success in obtaining grant funding from a variety of sources
  • Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research
  • Excellent organization and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to participate as a team player to coordinate grant projects
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and coordinate multiple projects
