Prenatal Vitamins

Pregnant women and developing babies are particularly vulnerable to micronutrient deficiencies, which can greatly increase the risk of dying during childbirth or of giving birth to a baby that is preterm, underweight, or physically or mentally impaired.

A midwife teaches pregnant women about the importance of taking prenatal vitamins during pregnancy and lactation.

To address this issue, Direct Relief contracts with an FDA-approved manufacturer to produce prenatal vitamins that meet specific WHO recommendations. These prenatal vitamins are distributed to health facilities and Direct Relief’s partner organizations around the world.

Numerous studies have shown that daily vitamin supplementation significantly reduces health risks for pregnant women and their babies.

Prenatal supplements are particularly effective as they contain a higher level of the nutrients critical to having a healthy pregnancy and child.
