Direct Relief Responds to Hurricane Stan

Direct Relief today furnished over three tons of emergency medicines and supplies to a long-standing partner in Guatemala in response to disaster related storms from Hurricane Stan.

Working with a Food for the Poor emergency clinic and shelter in the Lake Atitlan area that was established soon after devastating storms affected the region, Direct Relief shipped air freight $544,000 wholesale of medical supplies that were requested by staff at the clinic.

The emergency materials include antibiotics, anti-fungal creams, eye drops, first aid and minor surgical supplies, oral rehydration drinks, and shelter items such as shampoo, soap, and toothbrushes. The organization is prepared to send further shipments based upon the needs of Direct Relief’s partners in El Salvador and Guatemala.

With today’s shipment, Direct Relief has furnished a total of $1 million wholesale in medical material through shipments to the devastated region.
