Direct Relief Extends Assistance to Partners in Vietnam Responding to Flooding

Direct Relief is coordinating with partners in Vietnam to provide medical aid to support the emergency response to flooding there. Marie Stopes International (MSI) Vietnam representatives report that two of their clinics, in the central provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh have been badly affected, as have the people of those provinces.

“As the heavy rain started after working time and lasted for the whole night, the only thing our team could save were the ultrasound machines,” Thi Bich Hang Nguyen, country representative for MSI Vietnam, reported Tuesday night to Direct Relief’s emergency response team. “Almost all other equipment has been badly damaged. The people in the flooding areas of Nghe An and Ha Tinh have terribly suffered as well. Any help for them to rectify the post flooding problems would certainly be greatly appreciated.”

Direct Relief’s emergency response team has offered emergency medical aid to be sourced from its standing inventory, based on needs that partners identify. With the response taking shape on the ground now, Direct Relief is working with partners to provide the most critically needed items to help people affected by flooding.

Marie Stopes International provides comprehensive reproductive health services at clinics in countries around the world, including Vietnam, and expands its services to primary care during emergencies. Direct Relief supports MSI facilities with medical material aid as part of a strategic alliance to support maternal and child health around the world.
