Direct Relief Reaching Out to Partners Following Tsunami in Indonesia

Direct Relief is reaching out to partners today to offer assistance following a 7.5-magnitude earthquake and tsunami that struck off the Mentawai Islands of Sumatra, Indonesia, last night. According to news reports, more than 108 people have been killed in the tsunami and more than 500 are missing.

Direct Relief is prepared to respond as partners’ needs are assessed and the best plan for treating tsunami survivors is determined. The organization has a long history of responding to emergencies in the region, including a multi-year effort to assist after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami delivering more than $59.7 million in medical aid and cash grants to partners in four countries.
