Reaching Out to Partners in New Mexico Following Extensive Wildfires

Direct Relief reached out today to seven New Mexico-based community health center and free clinic partners to determine the medical needs of those affected by the Las Conchas fire burning near Los Alamos. Key items often needed during wildfire events include N95 particulate respirators (masks), inhalers for asthma patients, and respiratory medications to prevent and treat respiratory conditions exacerbated by smoke and particulate matter during fire incidents.

News reports indicate that more than 60,000 acres have burned as of midday June 28, and thousands of residents have fled Los Alamos in advance of the fire.

Based on extensive experience responding to major wildfires in Calfornia, Direct Relief staff is ready assist partners in New Mexico, and to coordinate shipments of needed medical products and supplies for their patients in need.
