Helping People in Mumbai Maintain Healthy Vision

Nearly 200 people living in the impoverished Lallubhai compound of Mumbai, India received a free eye check up and disability screening earlier this week at a camp organized by Doctors for You.

Based out of India, Doctors for You (DFY) is a new Direct Relief partner organization that focuses on providing medical care to vulnerable communities – both during emergencies and every day.

Their work to provide eye care to people affected by poverty is especially important as living conditions in the slum areas increase susceptibility to eye infections and diseases. And without good vision, employment opportunities become limited, further exacerbating poverty.

Beyond the eye care camps they run, DFY is also committed to providing primary care, oral health care, and reproductive health care. They operate two health centers – one in rural Bihar and the other in the Natwar Parikh slum township in Mumbai – as well as provide regular community visits.

Direct Relief is excited to announce that they will receive their first shipment of medicines and supplies in the next week and is looking forward to the continued partnership.
