Emergency Update: Typhoon Lando, Philippines, 10/19

Typhoon Lando Map - Philippines

Typhoon Lando (Koppu) made landfall Saturday on the northernmost island of Luzon in the Philippines. The storm packed 124 mph winds and dropped 20 inches of rain in some areas, causing massive flooding, landslides, and 12 deaths.

Many people in low-lying areas were evacuated before the storm hit, which kept the death toll from climbing higher.

Lando has downgraded to a tropical storm but is expected to last for the next few days, causing additional flooding and potential landslides.

Direct Relief staff is in the Philippines on the island of Bohol and has reached out to local partners with offers of assistance.
