Direct Relief has reached out with offers of assistance to partners in the Philippines as Typhoon Haima – one of the strongest typhoons ever to hit the country – makes landfall over the northern province of Cagayan.
With heavy rains and winds as high as 195 mph, Typhoon Haima is comparable in strength to Super Typhoon Haiyan, which killed more than 7,350 people in 2013.
Should a wide-scale health emergency occur in the next 24-48 hours, Direct Relief is prepared to support nonprofit partners and health providers throughout the country with pre-packed emergency health modules from its U.S. warehouse.
Each module contains the medicines and medical supplies needed to treat 1,000 patients for up to one month.
As the humanitarian impact comes into clearer focus, Direct Relief will coordinate with on-the-ground partners and stands ready to respond to requests for support.
