Emergency Update: Hidden Pines Wildfire, Texas

With more than 4,582 acres burned and 400 homes evacuated, the Hidden Pines Fire in Bastrop County, Texas adds to a growing list of devastating wildfires this year in the U.S.

The Governor of Texas declared a state of disaster in Bastrop County outside Austin, where the fire has destroyed 38 structures, most of them homes. Roughly 400 families have evacuated their homes, and the fire threatens an additional 150.

The wildfire’s rapid spread this week is attributed to a combination of dry weather and warm winds.

Direct Relief’s Response

A shipment of 100 family emergency kits left Direct Relief’s warehouse Friday afternoon for community health centers in Bastrop County. Scheduled to arrive Monday, the kits will be distributed to support people who evacuated their homes.
