A 7.3-magnitude earthquake rattled Venezuela on Tuesday, sending reverberations across the Caribbean region and into neighboring Colombia.

The earthquake’s epicenter was recorded about 12 miles northwest of Yaguaraparo on Venezuela’s northeastern coast, near Trinidad.

Direct Relief has been contact with its long-standing partners in Venezuela, and stands ready to respond should the government request outside assistance.

Direct Relief has a long history of responding to earthquakes in the region, including responses in Ecuador in 2016, Chile in 2010 and Peru in 2007.

This is an evolving situation, and more information will be posted as it becomes available.
