Mapping California Wildfires

More than 1 million acres have burned across California so far this year, and the threat is far from over. Eleven fires are still burning across the state, with more blazes spotting beyond California’s borders, across the Western U.S.

To see just where those fires are burning and what communities are impacted, Direct Relief’s Research and Analysis team built a fire map that updates automatically.

The map shows the boundaries surrounding an active fire, while the dashboard to the right records how many acres have burned to date in California, as well as a tally of active fires burning in the state.

The data comes from a number of sources, including the U.S. Geological Survey, National Park Service, and the Bureau of Land Management, among others.
