Operational Update: Pandemic Response for India; Naloxone to More than a Dozen States

A surge of Covid-19 cases in India prompts continued response, and additional medical aid was sent to 10 countries over the past seven days.

Over the past seven days, Direct Relief has delivered 384 shipments of requested medical aid to 43 U.S. states and territories and 10 countries worldwide.

The shipments contained 1.4 million defined daily doses of medications, including large quantities of insulin, cancer treatment drugs, antibiotics, hygiene products, prenatal vitamins, and personal protective equipment for the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, among many other items.

Included in these were 21 shipments of overdose-reversing naloxone, worth $542K, which went to health providers across 14 U.S. states.

Also staged for shipment this week were PPE items and essential medicines for health providers caring for Covid-19 patients in India. The shipment will go to the nonprofit group, Calcutta Rescue, which operates a charitable pharmacy in the country.

In the U.S., Direct Relief delivered 374 shipments weighing 30,340 pounds and containing 445,856 doses of medications.

Since January 1, 2021, Direct Relief has delivered 7,633 shipments to 1,531 partner organizations in 52 U.S. states and territories and 71 countries.

These shipments contained 86.8 million defined daily doses of medication valued at $373.1 million (wholesale) and totaling 3 million lbs. (1,500 tons).
