Direct Relief Offers Support to Partners in the Philippines Following Typhoon Morakot

In response to Typhoon Morakot, which has caused widespread flooding in the Philippines, Direct Relief International has extended offers of support to its partners working in-country to aid those affected.

Morakot has also drenched parts of China, Taiwan, and Japan with record rainfall. The storm killed 21 people when it struck the Philippines last week, and seven people are reported missing there. Direct Relief will continue to monitor the situation and keep in contact with partners in the Philippines to provide assistance as needed.

In addition to extensive experience responding to emergencies in Asia, including the Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004 and Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar in 2008, Direct Relief has provided more than $3.6 million (wholesale) in medical material aid to the Philippines since 2000, delivering basic supplies as well as materials to support maternal and child health programs.
