Operational Update: 50 Tons of Medical Aid Departed Internationally Over Past Week
Medical aid for 14 countries departed this week from Direct Relief, including emergency shipments for residents impacted by volcanic eruptions in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Emergency shipments of medical aid were staged before departure on April 12, 2021, at Direct Relief headquarters for those impacted by the volcanic eruption in St. Vincent in the Caribbean. Over the past seven days, Direct Relief has delivered 497 shipments of requested medical aid to 44 U.S. states and territories and 14 countries worldwide.
The shipments contained 12.1 million defined daily doses of medications, including large quantities of diabetes medications, cancer treatment drugs, antibiotics, reproductive health products, and prenatal vitamins, as well as emergency medical aid for those impacted by the La Soufriere volcano.
In the U.S., Direct Relief delivered 478 shipments weighing 57,537 pounds and containing 2.1 million doses of medications.

First responders in Coahuila, Mexico, treated patients with Direct Relief-provided Emergency Medical Backpacks this week. These backpacks, containing first aid essentials, were delivered to Coahuila’s Ministry of Health last week in response to local wildfires. Since January 1, 2021, Direct Relief has delivered 6,768 shipments to 1,482 partner organizations in 52 U.S. states and territories and 68 countries.
These shipments contained 83 million defined daily doses of medication valued at $353.5 million (wholesale) and totaling 2.7 million lbs. (1,350 tons).
